Murder suspect Nicholas “Suga” Johnson Surrenders to Police Over 2024 Murder of Colene Toney

After more than a year on the run, 25-year-old Nicholas Johnson, known as “Suga,” has turned himself in to police in connection with the 2024 murder of 31-year-old Colene Toney of No. 53 Village, Corentyne.

Johnson, a labourer of Lot 90, No. 51 Village, Corentyne, turned on the morning of Tuesday, July 23, 2025, at the Springlands Police Station. He was accompanied by his attorney when he arrived at the Criminal Investigation Department around 11:10 hrs. Johnson was immediately informed of the allegations, arrested, and placed in police custody.

The incident occurred on February 20, 2024, when Toney was fatally stabbed during a confrontation believed to have stemmed from a dispute over a mobile phone.

According to police reports, the two men were involved in an argument about 23:00 hrs. Witnesses stated that Toney had approached Johnson about payment for a cell phone he had sold him. The dispute reportedly escalated, leading to Johnson allegedly stabbing Toney multiple times before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.

Toney was discovered moments later lying on the ground with several stab wounds, including one to the chest. He was rushed to the Skeldon Public Hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
